The careless disposal of plastics has caused plastic pollution due to the resistance of plastics to degradation. Therefore, this research examines the biodegradation of polypropylene and polystyrene by superworms and mealworms, and the rate in which the plastics are degraded by the worms. Polypropylene and styrofoam blocks were fed to the superworms and mealworms in several containers. The frass of the worms is then collected and analyzed. The preliminary results has shown that mealworms have a higher rate of plastic consumption in both polypropylene and polystyrene, the results can provide a more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly method of recycling plastics.
